DISTRCT: ONE STOP SHOP
What do you get when you have a barbershop, mixed with a tattoo parlor, attach a retail store and add two full dance studios: Distrct (don’t worry, we wouldn’t have guessed the answer either). But someone who did know the answer is b-boy Ronnie Abaldonaldo, from America’s Best Dance Crew’s JabbaWockeez. Dance, music, and art – he combined everything he loved under one roof.
When we met up with Distrct’s manager Matthew Gosom, we asked him if he ever got bored at work. With barbers and tattoo artists creating, dancers frolicking, and customers chilling, he loves being surrounded by talent. Matthew says there’s always a chance for deep conversations when you’re bound by art. One of the coolest spots to carry those conversations is in the barbershop/tattoo parlor. The guys in there constantly horse around and really make their clients feel a part of the conversation. It thrills Matthew how the fellas are always on the cusp of styles and trends and always execute cuts with refinement. Just 10 minutes outside of the Las Vegas strip, you can find Elliott & Co. A skip away from the hustle and bustle, owner and barber Elliott Chester created his barbershop. He crafted his shop to resemble a swanky bachelor’s pad, a lounge to escape to. A big screen airs sports or The Food Channel and huge, plush leather chairs welcome the clients. With a variety of Frank Sinatra to hip hop to rock n’ roll; the atmosphere at Elliott & Co. lures you in.
As clients unwind, Elliott and his barbers will recharge them with a chic, new look. He’s been barbering for about 16 years and says he’s constantly learning new things about the industry. Whether it was from his mentors or from incoming barbers, Elliott’s an open book when it comes to cutting.
When asked about why his clients are so loyal to the barbershop, he assures us that the customers know that the barbers care.
