Join the movement with Exodus Barber Shop
Located in Stone Mountain, Georgia – a bit outside of Atlanta, Exodus Barber Shop is more than just a place to get your hair cut. As owner Dan Brown, “The Barber” not the author, describes it – it’s a movement. Hence Exodus.
Dan “The Barber” doesn’t like the misconception that just because a barbershop has an urban feel, that stereotypes are attached to it. So he’s moving to change that perception. He’s doing so by balancing professional styling and educating the industry, all the while keeping true to the hood feel. He contradicts those that think barbering is a stationary job; in actuality his career has taken him places he would never imagine. As a platform artist for Curtis Smith’s team Exotics, he travels the world showcasing his skills in front of thousands of audiences. Once you master a craft as Brown has, you’re in high demand.
So stepping into Exodus Barber Shop, you know that you’ll be getting precision cuts with the experts. Brown is proud of his establishment, so barbers in his shop have a high threshold to surpass his expectations. But don’t think that his place is all work and no play, it’s just about providing professionalism with a laid-back mentality.

Off The Hook is off the chain
Located in the historic Castleberry Hill district in Atlanta, Off the Hook (OTH) is nestled amidst the thriving restaurants, art galleries and loft neighborhoods. As local “CHillers” or wandering travellers peruse through Castleberry Hill’s Second Friday Art Stroll, they’re bound to come across artists at work at OTH.
Someone you’ll get to know very well at OTH is Karl, the owner of the shop for 14 years. His old-school charm influences the classic look and feel of OTH and he’s always looking for new ways to perfect the atmosphere. As an artistic kid growing up, Karl’s attitude on cutting and styling makes him and his shop a great addition to the creative neighborhood.
When visiting his place, be ready to talk it up with all the barbers – they make sure you receive the southern hospitality they’re known for. And expect the shop to get loud; it’s a popular place to just hang out. Soon you’ll get to know them all and you’ll realize that not only can they provide a decent conversation, but also a decent cut.

A knockout cut at Rocky's Barber Shop
On the outskirts of the uptown neighborhood of Buckhead, Atlanta lays Rocky’s Barber Shop. Conveniently located across the Buckhead Crossing Shopping Center, drop off the Mrs. for her shopping spree and head over to Rocky’s for a winning look.
Rocky - the owner, first began cropping hair at 14, after experiencing frustration waiting hours for an available barber. So for Christmas that year, he asked his family for a set of clippers and his barbering history took off. And now, like then, his precision cuts have given him a large following. Rumor on the street is: he’s the barber to see.
Relying on word of mouth, Rocky and his barbers make sure that you leave his shop in top condition. And it’s not just his cuts you’ll be talking about, but also his hospitality. He welcomes everyone who steps inside his doors. Sports, news or music are always tuned up and the vibe is cool and comfortable. Rocky’s also become a part of the community too. He gives back to struggling parents and kids by comping youths with free cuts when they’ve earned good grades. Rocky and his barbers aren’t just looking to make cuts, but looking to make changes within the community they serve.

Through the years with Thomas Barber Shop
Since 1959, Thomas Barber Shop has witnessed some of Atlanta’s long, rich history. When speaking to head barber Mike Swift, he details the shop’s enduring story throughout the generations. Take a seat in his chair and you’ll soon appreciate that not only can the man cut, but he can tell stories too.
Mike began his career when the civil rights movement was in full bloom and was one of the very few African-American barbers at the time. Opportunities weren’t abundant to him, so he relied on his natural expertise with hair to land jobs and finally, a chair at Thomas Barber Shop. He’s been with the shop since 1979 and when asked to talk about the place, he speaks of it with immense pride.
The shop’s located by the historic Governor’s office and they’ve cut hair for senators, congressmen, and even for presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Besides the notoriety of clientele, he’s honored that the barbershop guys have been a part of the team for years. You’re dealing with veteran barbers and clients here: “Being a barber is more than just cutting hair, it’s about relationships, for example here… it’s about life-long relationships.” So if you’re looking for a “long-term” barbershop, stop on in because you’re always welcomed.
